Scott Reams 1991

Canal Road, a maintenance road alongside a waterway that was the scene of a recent fatal accident, soon will be closed to the public, said Paul Brum, Oklahoma City public works director.

The death of Scott Russel Reams, 21, of Bethany in the early morning hours of 1991 has prompted city officials to put up permanent guard rails at the road near Bluff Creek Canal.

Brum said Canal Road, which wasn't supposed to be a public road, should be permanently closed to the public by today or early next week.

Before dawn New Year's Day, a small pickup truck driven by Reams rolled off the road and broke through four inches of ice in the canal.

Passenger Renee Dawn Beal, 19, was thrown from the truck before it hit the icy water. She groped in the pitch-dark cold, calling for Reams before running almost a mile to a house in Bethany where a homeowner dialed 911, police reported.

Reams drowned in the icy water.

Brum said work to close the road began this week. He said a guard rail is to be placed at one entrance of the road and a gate at the other for city workers' use.

Marty Subbs 1988

The following is an insert from an article about Marty Stubbs that was published in the Oklahoman in 1989:

"Murder Defendant Innocent An Oklahoma City man who survived a fight that left his brother and another man dead was found innocent Thursday of first-degree murder.
Police had alleged that Michael Robert Stubbs, 22, and his brother were responsible for a fatal stabbing Aug. 28 at the Heritage Apartments in Oklahoma City.
Before dying, the stabbing victim, Gregory Ray Brown, 31, shot Michael Stubbs and his brother, John Martin Stubbs.
John Stubbs, 18, died after collapsing in a field near the apartments. Michael Stubbs was shot in the back and side but made it to his apartment a few blocks away.
Police said the men were arguing about a drug deal, but Michael Stubbs told jurors his brother had gone to the apartment to confront Brown about hurting a friend.
"He said he went over to keep his brother from getting into trouble. ... He said he didn't know how the stabbing took place," defense attorney Irven Box said."

Brad Bell 2016
une 5, 1970 - December 14, 2016 YUKON On June 5, 1970, our family was blessed with the gift of Bradley Wayne "Brad" Bell. What a blessing he was; his personality, ability to love and his quick wit, and so much more has been the center of our lives for over 46 years. On Wednesday, December 14, he relocated to his new home, Heaven. He brought light into our world. Today, our world is a darker place, but we find comfort in knowing that our Brad is at peace and will be spending Christmas this year with Jesus. Brad spent four years as a child in Zimbabwe. It was here he acquired a love for people different from himself and developed a lifelong love for missions, soccer, and rugby. He witnessed a civil war as Rhodesia became Zimbabwe. He had many adventures and a lot of stories to tell. They were all true, even though most people didn't believe them. Brad graduated from Putnam City West in 1988 and from Southern Nazarene University in 1994. He attended language school in Costa Rica and traveled throughout the country with sports teams. He also participated in numerous mission trips to Mexico and Africa. A portion of his time on mission trips was spent entertaining children and making people laugh. As the ultimate Oklahoma University Sooners fan, he always anticipated that first football game of the year and traveled to many away games. Brad has worked as a teacher, a coach, and a business owner. While coaching at Cooper Middle School, a favorite player was Sam Bradford, a Heisman Trophy winner and NFL player. Brad considered Sam to be one of the best people he ever met. He loved teaching and coaching and loved children of all ages. They all loved him as well. The welcoming committee in Heaven included his grandparents, Dub & Dorothy Whitney and Bill & Myrtle Bell; uncles, Billy Bell and Doyle Pitman; aunts, Sharon Bell and Lula Duncan; and cousins, Owen (Bumper) Carr and Jackson Owen Dabney. Survivors include parents, Glenda & Don Bell; sister, Deneine Duroy; niece, Lauren Duroy; nephew, Brandon Wilkerson & his wife Becky; aunts, Carla Cheairs, JoAnn Pitman, and Jean Bell; and uncle, LeeRoy Bell. He also had two special cousins, Dara Gamble and Kyna Adams. Special great- aunts and uncles include Sue & Tommy Breznik and Sarah & Roland Ledford. He had a large extended family and countless friends who were loved as family members. Buchanan Funeral Service is entrusted with arrangements. Visitation will be on Sunday, 1-8 p.m. with family visitation 4-6 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 19 at Crossings Community Church. Family requests any memorial donations be directed to Jim Riley Outreach, 2201 Cardinal Dr, Edmond, OK 73013.
